Procrastinating!

It was a very pleasant wedding…and the bride and groom looked really, really happy! I’m ashamed of myself, I shouldn’t be so cynical. Combination of hormones, long experience of playing for weddings which have been a nightmare, and my general mood, I think.

In my defence, I find weddings boring to play for as it’s almost always the same two or three pieces of music that never get played to the end, and more and more it’s a CD that’s played during the signing of the registers. Then a couple of hymns that hardly anyone knows.

Funerals, from my point of view, have far more variety to them!! Unless, of course, I became a crematorium organist, who probably gets to play the same three or four hymns over and over and over all day! These are all banned at my own funeral.

Its always a shame that people aren't more imaginative at their weddings. Although I have to admit to loving a good sing along to hymns.

  The more imaginative and creative church services are, inevitably, devised either by church goers or by people with a good knowledge of music.
  
  The problem with hymns not being known is something that's been vexing those of us who come up against this time and again for some years now. There's also the whole thing of singing. My sister now refuses to sit with me at family weddings and funerals because I do sing along, with gusto and enthusiasm, and she's embarrassed. I'm caught in a cleft stick, because I don't want her to be embarrassed, but neither do I want not to sing, knowing how I'm usually needed to sing.

what songs would you have at your funeral then!!!..i quite fancy always look on the bright side of life...or the theme tune from rawhide..

  List is currently too long and unedited for publication! mostly because I keep having bright ideas!
  
  There's a Russian Orthodox piece called the Kontakion which I'd love to have, only if there are enough deep voiced men there to do it justice.
  
  What I don't want, in any shape or form is "The Lord's my shepherd" "Abide with me" "Amazing Grace" or "The Old Rugged Cross".
